Christopher Beasley
Hi, I'm Christopher Beasley. Welcome to my profile!
CHRISTOPHER BEASLEY BIO
As an instructor, I believe that engaged and critical students can move beyond popular and media knowledge to think independently and creatively about the mind and behaviors. Students possess more power over their learning than any individual instructor has. Instructors can provide guidance for learning and encourage basic habits of consumption, but our primary goals should be to excite students and move them beyond their reliance on the classroom for knowledge.
My primary area of research involves how people in recovery from drugs and alcohol become involved citizens of their recovery communities. In my work, I have utilized community and industrial/organizational (I/O) principles to frame my research and develop measures for investigating involvement in mutual help groups and the congruence between people and settings--person-environment fit (P-E fit) in community settings. In a second program of research, I am examining the effects of LGBT speakers on college students' attitudes and identities. My master's thesis examined how gay and lesbian speaker panels can be applied to an online environment through "virtual" panels.
